Expressionism

“Wake up Cesare, it’s I, your master Caligari”
This scene I found to be very interesting when Caligari was performing, it shows that he alone have the power and authority to tell his puppets when to wake up or sleep. This scene also shows submission that his puppets are so loyal that he waken up from his very sleep to do the work of his master.
I chose this scene because it was very interesting to me yet so powerful. This made me think about the world Trade Center when the  hi- jackers was ordered by one man who is very powerful to them in their eyes to kill all those innocent people, by flying the two planes in the towers. This shows how an individual can have so much power and can order people to do things for them without them the master having  to do no work.  This shows how people who are willing to give up their lives for their master who shows loyalty to death like Cesare.
1.
  11. The symbolism of Caligari’s power over Cesare was the German government who use propagranda to gain control over germany, just like how hitler control his army to do his work.
2.      2.  Profit motive affects cultural production in the modern age by reinforcing traditional authority assuming the audience receives the message in the intended way. It’s all about making money.
3.   I can evaluate Frankfurt school elitism regarding mass culture due to gaining more profits, and only just looking out for people who are in the same league which are themselves the ( elites).
       4.      Three aspects of the film that relate to the attribute of the culture industry?
A.       The film produces by profit motive.
B.       Film produced by monopolies by Delta- Bioscop Film Studio who merged.
C.       Producers based their decision to see the what types of profit was being made.
5.    5.    Kracauer interprets the film as tranny and chaos by looking at the carnival it shows freedom you and go and come as one pleases and the merry – go show chaos.
6.     6.   The increased pressure to develop the German film industry after the first world war, was because German economy was struggling so they have to “de-industrialize” large segments or its economy so they move into the film industry, which was bringing money at that time.
7.      7.  I would evaluate the claims that expressionism breed excessive because they expect you to somewhat run away from the external world and depict an external world as expressions of internal states.
8.     8.   The film foreshadow the Nazi regime, because Dr. Caligari  ordered Cesare to kill as if he was a soldiers just like Hitler who send out  command and his soldier carry out each command.
9.      9.  Praxisism is an infusion of theory and practice. Also it is a practical action guide by theory which at the same rescues theory from being obsolete and out of touch.
